11 Days India Itinerary to Make You Go there right now

Covering Taj Mahal, Delhi, Rajasthan

 

India is a land of authentic, unique and off the beaten track Travel Experiences. It can get overwhelming, frustration if you don’t research and plan ahead. That’s why I, just like other bloggers always recommend to have at least a rough plan and don’t just show up in places.

If you are traveling to India for the first time, it is difficult to decide where to go and what to do especially of you have about 10 or 12 days. It can be a daunting to decide as there is everything you can ask for and India is a humongous country.

I suggest you start with the Classic Golden Triangle but I always add on 2 more places to make your Travel to India one of the best ones.

As I said last week – I am publishing now the example of 11 days itinerary (including 2 days for a flight to and from India). I am sure everyone who would like to travel to India for the first time will find it useful. DAY 1 – DELHI

Arrival to Delhi. Transfer to the hotel and taking a rest.

The program this day depends on the arrival timing. If time permits, do short Delhi sightseeing in the afternoon.

Overnight in Delhi

DAY 2 – DELHI / AGRA

After breakfast, drive around to the Parliament House & India Gate. Old Delhi overflows with people from all walks of life, crowded bazaars and winding alleys. Visit the imposing Red Fort and Jama Masjid to view the excellence of Mughal architecture. Also do the rickshaw drive on the narrow, crazy streets of Delhi.

Shop until you drop and try your bargain skills in New Delhi’s many shopping complexes. Learn about Mahatma Gandhi in his Memorial Centre (if time permits).

Leave for Agra in the afternoon (3.5 hrs. drive). Check in to the hotel.

DAY 3 & 4 – AGRA / JAIPUR

At sunrise visit Taj Mahal – it will be the most amazing sunrise you’ll ever see!

Taj Mahal is surely the most extravagant expression of love ever created, 20 000 men labored on it for over seventeen years. It was commissioned by Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his third wife who died in 1631. The Taj Mahal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and considered one of the eight wonders of the world. Also visit the majestic Red Fort, where marble pavilions with floral inlays create a stunning ambiance.

Leave for Jaipur, the ”Pink City”, after breakfast via Fatehpur Sikri, a 16th century deserted red sandstone city, built by Emperor Akbar as his capital.

Overnight in Jaipur

Widely known as the ‘Pink City’, Jaipur was color washed to welcome Prince Albert, the consort of Queen Victoria in 1883. The city was founded in 1727 and is sub-divided into nine rectangular sectors symbolizing the nine divisions of the universe. The city still exudes a magical old world charm; an aroma of chivalry and romance is evident everywhere. Experience an unforgettable ride on decorated elephant-back, to the Amber Fort which houses the magnificent Marble Palace, Temple of Victory, and Hall of Mirrors. Later visit the City Palace, home of the present Maharaja.

DAY 5 & 6 – JAIPUR / ALSISSAR

After breakfast drive to Alsisar. Upon arrival at the Alsisar check-in the hotel. In the afternoon do a city sightseeing. You will see, among other things, a great merchant palaces, Hindu temples and magnificent fort Alsisar Mahal.

Overnight in Alsisar

After breakfast continue Alsisar sightseeing. Alsisar is famous for its castle, havelis, and cenotaphs. Every year many tourists come to visit the havelis on which fresco painting is done. You should also visit a local village.

DAY 7 & 8 – VARANASI

After breakfast drive to Delhi (approx. 8-hrs drive with stops – by local roads, so the views will be very interesting) and the flight to Varanasi in the evening. After arrival check in the hotel.

Next day after breakfast go for the Varanasi sightseeing – tale a boat cruise on Ganges; you will see, among others, famous ghats and you will see how people live every day on the river banks; also take a tuk tuk (auto rickshaw) tour.

In the evening go for another cruise and see theGanga Aarti ritual.

Overnight in Varanasi

DAY 9 – DELHI

Fly back to Delhi for your connecting back home or continuing further in India or SE Asia.
